LERSA MEETS WITH LASWARCO

Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission was established in 2004 to regulate the water services sector.
It was however incorporated into the Environment Management protection law of 2017.

The commission aims to regulate and ensure viability of the water sector

- anybody who engages in public water generation and supply falls under this regulations (this includes developers who provide water for estate residents, individuals who distributes water, pure water factories etc. They function as the NAFDAC for the water sector in Lagos State.
  The commission wants to ensure that there is No abuse of monopoly by service providers.
  - Consumer protection
     - Each estate providing water should ensure they are treated
Not assume that it is not being drunk

The commission's operations in line with the SDG goal 6, THEMES Agenda of the Sanwo-Olu led administration

The commission wants to collaborate with estate residents to be involved in setting water tariffs by the service providers.

*Lagos residents can Feel the government through the regulators.

- meeting is aimed at sensitising both the consumer and the providers.

The commission also deal with issues of pollution to public water sources. These include sewer water treatment and disposal.
The commission also regulates Location of Septic tanks and boreholes within premises to ensure unpolluted water.

- While we are not waiting for government to provide water services, the body aims to provide government presence.

The LERSA delegation was led by the LERSA president Olorogun James Emadoye.
LERSA commended the initiative of government in establishing the commission that will serve as an arbiter between estate developers and residents in the area of disputes that usually emanates from high water tariffs and non treatment of water.

The LERSA team pledged the support of it's member estates and communities to the commission.

The commission promised to always treat all petitions and summons from the association promptly and pledged to collaborate with the association to ensure availability of portable water on the Lekki Peninsula.

The meeting was ended with the presentation on the Lagos International Water Conference (LIWAC-2022) Event Report to LERSA President by the Executive Secretary.
